It starts with the vision of two former Saugus High School Hockey players/coaches and the Saugus Varsity Club Hockey. Coach Jim Quinlan and Coach Bobby Maccini had a dream going back to the glory days of the highly respected and revered late Coach Chris Serino.  Their objective is simple: to prepare and teach the younger hockey players of Saugus to play traditional, fundamental hockey while instilling in them a love of the game that has been so good to them. More precisely, to give back to our youth what has been given to them throughout the years; they have never forgotten where they came from.

With the 2012-2013 season being the program’s first year, they could not have asked for a more successful start. The S.V.C.H.P. currently has two teams consisting of a total of 43 aspiring Sachem hockey players. One consists of 7th and 8th graders, the other consists of 5th and 6th graders. The teams presently compete in the highly competitive Valley Hockey Middle School League against the surrounding towns such as Peabody, Burlington, Melrose, Danvers, Lynnfield, and Winthrop, amongst others. From the program’s inception, the coaches and participants have showed a renewed and aspired dedication to the game which shows in these young men’s level of play and improvement throughout the first half of the season with great expectations for the remainder of the season.

For those younger players coming of age next season, please keep your eyes and ears open, as the league will be holding an informational meeting for all parents and players wishing to learn more about this amazing program and what it has to offer to the future Sachems of Saugus. Please also know that the league is open to all youth from the Town of Saugus, grades 5 through 8, whether attending public or private school.
